ForageGuard and HayFresh

HayFresh

is a specially formulated blend containing 68% buffered propionic acid, sorbic acid, citric acid, benzoic acid, acetic acid and propylene glycol. The propriety blend of organic acids and surfactants offer optimum protection from mold and yeast growth. When hay is baled and stored at moderate moisture levels (18-30%), a favorable environment exists for the growth of undesirable bacteria, fungi, and yeast. Both moisture and temperature drive the population growth of these microorganisms. HayFresh"! has a combined total of 81% active acids and is available in 55 gallon drums, 275 gallon totes and by bulk.

For many years, the disadvantage to using Propionic Acid was the corrosiveness to machinery, pungent odor, and volatility. AgroChem Inc. uses a strong buffering agent to reduce these unfavorable characteristics of the preservative, yet maintain it's effectiveness.

EPA REGISTRATION # 82808-2

According to extensive research and study conducted by Cornell Cooperative Extension, Wisconsin University and Ohio University, applying organic acids to hay at harvest time has proven to preserve hay above optimum moisture levels. Tests have clearly shown that buffered propionic acid is the most effective organic acid to use to control the development of molds on moist hay. HayFresh and Forage Guard contain 68% Propionic Acid and have been registered by the Environmental Protective Agency.

Forage Guard

is a 68% buffered propionic acid that is economical yet highly effective. Forage Guard is formulated for use on baled hay, high moisture ear and shell corn, high moisture barley, and other high moisture grains. Forage Guard is available in 55gallon drums, 275 gallon totes or bulk.

Forage Guard is effective in upright silos (oxygen limiting or conventional), bags and bunkers. Once ensiled, aerobic micro-organisms will begin to grow and metabolize nutrients in the grain, the application of Forage Guard will inhibit the growth of aerobic molds and yeast until fermentation is completed. The application of Forage Guard will also provide aerobic stability at feed out, when the grains are again exposed to aerobic microorganisms. It is recommended to apply at approximately 3-6 lbs of Forage Guard per ton. To reduce the growth of molds and reduce heating of TMR mixes, add approximately 2-4 lbs of Forage Guard to the mix.
